1. Who we are
LakbayBook (“LakbayBook”, “we”, “us”) is a trip workbook product operated by Ernest John Maskariño. These Terms govern your access to and use of the website, Android and iOS apps (including beta builds distributed through app stores or testing tracks), and related services that let you plan, share, publish, and collaborate on trip workbooks.
2. Agreement
By creating an account, signing in (including with Google or Apple where offered), installing a LakbayBook app, or using LakbayBook, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
3. The service
LakbayBook provides tools such as:
- Private and shared trip workbooks: trip detail, flights, itinerary, hotels, food places, expenses and split bill, emergency contacts, prep lists, destination notes, crew files, and a trip recap
- Collaborator invites with roles (owner, planner, foodie, finance, freeloader) that decide who can edit what
- Reading flight tickets and boarding passes on your device, and hotel booking confirmations with AI, to fill in details for you
- Live map and Live navigation during a trip, using maps and directions from third-party providers
- Reviews of places (activities, food places, hotels) with optional photos, shared by everyone who adds that place
- Publishing workbooks to World / Explore for others to view, like, or copy into a private draft
- Profiles, follows, likes, leaderboards, and Atlas / passport stamps derived from finished published trips
- In-app notifications and optional push notifications for invites, social activity, and trip reminders
- LakBi, an in-product assistant powered by third-party AI (currently Google Gemini)
Features may change, pause, or end as we improve the product. Beta or testing builds may be incomplete or change without notice. We may offer free and paid tiers in the future; if prices apply, we will describe them before you pay.
4. Accounts
- You can browse public itineraries, profiles, leaderboards, Day Tours and trip recaps without an account. Creating or copying trips, joining a crew, rating, liking, following and LakBi need a free account. These Terms apply to you either way.
- You must provide accurate account details and keep your password confidential. If you use Google or Apple sign-in, protect that provider account as well.
- You are responsible for activity under your account across web and mobile.
- You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live (and at least 13 years old, or the higher digital-consent age in your region).
- We may suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms or put others at risk. A suspended account can’t sign in until we lift the suspension.
- You can delete your account at any time in Account. Deleting it removes your trips, ledgers, invites, review photos, and profile; your reviews, and what you added to other people’s trips, stay as “Deleted account”. You may sign up again later with the same email; your old data is not restored.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of trip content you create (titles, itineraries, notes, uploads, cover images, expense entries, crew files such as PDFs and photos, lists, and similar). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, store, process, display, and transmit that content as needed to run LakbayBook—including sharing it with collaborators you invite, people who open a private share link you generate, and showing eligible sheets publicly when you publish.
You represent that you have the rights to the content you upload and that it does not infringe others’ rights or break the law. Do not upload files you are not allowed to share with your crew (for example someone else’s tickets, IDs, or booking confirmations without permission).
When you save places from a link you share or paste (for example a TikTok or Google Maps link), LakbayBook reads that page’s public content only to find the places it mentions. The post stays its creator’s; we don’t copy it into your trip, and you’re responsible for the links you add to lists and trips.
Reviews and review photos. A review belongs to the place you reviewed, not to one trip. Anyone who adds that place to a trip—public or private—can see your stars, tags, note, photo, and the date you wrote or last edited it. Your name and profile photo show when your profile is public; otherwise the review shows as “A traveller”. You have one review per place; you can update or delete it while a trip that includes the place allows reviews. Deleting a trip does not delete your reviews of places; deleting your account does. Review photos are resized and shown with a small LakbayBook watermark, and can be opened full screen with who posted them and when. Only add photos you took or have the right to share.
6. Publishing, sharing, and safety
- Public / Explore. When you set a workbook to public or publish it, anyone with the link (and Explore visitors) may view trip details you included on public sheets in read-only form. They may like the itinerary when signed in. Think carefully before sharing live locations, lodging addresses, or schedules for trips that have not ended. Crew files are not part of a public workbook and do not appear on Explore. Prep checklists on public views are for personal reference only and do not update the published trip for other viewers.
- Collaborators. People you invite may edit according to the roles you assign. Revoke access when someone should no longer contribute.
- Crew files. The trip owner and planners may upload PDFs (name, optional description, and file) for the crew. Those files are private: only signed-in collaborators on that trip and anyone with the private share link can view or download them. Publishing a trip does not publish crew files. Copies of a public itinerary do not include crew files. You are responsible for what you store there.
- Copies. Others may copy public itineraries into their own private drafts. A copy is a template (for example day-by-day activities and food places); hotels, expenses, travelers, and your private materials are not included. Originals remain yours; copies become the copier’s responsibility once saved to their account.
- Notifications. We may show in-app alerts for invites, follows, and likes. Mobile apps may also send push notifications if you grant permission, including trip reminders (a few days before, the day before, and the day of a trip, when Live navigation is ready, and when your recap is ready). You can change preferences in Account and in your device settings.
- Expenses and split bill. LakbayBook helps you record costs and work out who owes whom. It does not move or hold money. Currency conversions use indicative mid-market rates from third-party sources and may differ from what your bank or card charges. Settle up between yourselves.
- Scans and AI. Flight tickets and boarding passes are read on your device. Hotel booking confirmations you upload are sent to our AI provider to pull out the details and are not kept after that. Always check what was filled in before relying on it.
- Live map and Live navigation. Optional Live map, Live navigation, and nearby helpers may use your device location when you grant permission. Location is for those features only (not advertising) and is not kept as a continuous track. Directions and places come from third-party map providers and can be wrong or out of date. Follow road signs and local laws, and don’t operate the app while driving. See the Privacy Policy.
- Block & report. Signed-in users may block travellers (hiding their public profiles and itineraries from each other in World / Explore) and report reviews, review photos, public trips, or users with the ⚑ Report button. Blocking removes follows both ways. We review reports and may remove content, take a trip off Explore, or suspend or close accounts when we believe these Terms or the law are violated. A review reported by several people may be hidden automatically until we review it. We may also act without a report.
LakbayBook is a planning tool, not emergency, medical, legal, or travel advice. Verify visas, bookings, safety, and emergency numbers yourself.
7. Acceptable use
Do not post, upload, or share (including in reviews, review photos, covers, profile photos, and crew files):
- Nudity, sexual, or sexually explicit content
- Any content that sexualises or endangers minors — we remove it, close the account, and report it to the authorities
- Graphic violence, gore, or content that promotes self-harm or dangerous acts
- Hate speech, harassment, threats, or bullying
- Someone else’s private information (IDs, passports, phone numbers, addresses) or photos of people who haven’t agreed to be shared
- Spam, ads, scams, or fake reviews (including reviewing places you didn’t visit or being paid to review)
- Content you don’t have the rights to share
And do not:
- Abuse, harass, or harm others, or post illegal, hateful, or exploitative content
- Attempt unauthorized access, scrape at abusive rates, or disrupt the service
- Use LakBi or other features to generate malware, scams, or content that violates the law
- Misrepresent identity or impersonate others
- Manipulate likes, follows, reviews, or rankings with bots or fake accounts
- Remove or hide watermarks, or bulk-download or scrape other travellers’ photos and reviews
- Resell access to the service without our written permission
8. LakBi and AI
LakBi suggestions (cover copy, booking parse helpers, chat tips, destination notes, photo lookups, and similar) are generated with third-party AI and may be incomplete or wrong. You are responsible for reviewing and deciding what to save into your workbook.
9. Third-party services
We use infrastructure and providers such as Cloudflare (hosting and edge functions), Supabase (auth, database, and file storage), Google (sign-in, Maps, Places, Routes for navigation, Gemini for LakBi, and push delivery), Apple (Sign in with Apple and push on iOS), Resend (email), OpenStreetMap-based services and map tiles (Nominatim, Photon, OpenFreeMap, Esri), photo libraries (Unsplash, Wikimedia Commons, Openverse), exchange-rate services (ExchangeRate-API, Frankfurter, currency-api), and app stores for distribution. Their terms may also apply to the portions they power. Place names, addresses, ratings, and photos from these providers belong to them and are shown under their terms.
10. Intellectual property
LakbayBook branding, UI, and software (excluding your content) belong to us or our licensors. You may not copy the product, reverse engineer it except where allowed by law, or use our marks without permission.
11. Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee uninterrupted uptime, perfect sync, or that AI or emergency data is complete.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or trip disruption arising from your use of LakbayBook. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) USD $50 if you paid nothing.
13. Termination
You may stop using LakbayBook and delete your account at any time in Account. We may remove content and suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms (including posting prohibited content), if repeated reports are upheld against your account, or if we shut down or redesign the service. A suspended account can’t sign in on the web or in the apps. Provisions that should survive (including ownership, disclaimers, and liability limits) will survive.
14. Changes
We may update these Terms. We will change the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, provide a reasonable notice when practical (for example in-product or by email). Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
15. Contact
Questions about these Terms: ejmaskarino.com / dev@ejmaskarino.com or the contact options on that site.
These Terms are written for LakbayBook’s current features. They are not personal legal advice. If you need formal counsel for your jurisdiction, please consult a lawyer.
